The Mobile Electronic Transport Information (METI) will enable
vision impaired individuals to better use public transport easily and independently
by providing stop and timetable information for multiple modes of a transport to a mobile phone.
The METI application provides innovation for Melbourne's public transport system
through the use of GPS and access to real time public transport data.
The METI team was formed as a part of Committe for Melbourne's intensive, two year leadership
development program, Future Focus Group. The aim of the Future Focus Group is to test the
leadership skills and commitment of Melbourne's future corporate and
community leaders. Commitee for Melbourne membership is comprised of CEOs from 170
organisations which are drawn from the city's major companies, academic institutions
and civic organisations.

The main objective of the “to be built” system is to provide customers with a
complete package through which they can view the whole system and easily adapt
it to their personal preferences. The project will provide customers with a web
enabled interface directly connected to the database. This application will
therefore run on any web browser and platform, a feature that the current
application does not support (the current software is a desktop application and
runs on Windows platform only).
